Garth Brooks Announces Stadium Tour
Garth Brooks had a lot of news to share during a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville on Wednesday, October 17th, not the least of which are his plans to head out on a three-year tour of stadiums for the first time in his career. The first two stops on the tour will be in Glendale, Arizona and in St. Louis, Missouri. Concert dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced soon, but Garth told reporters that five cities will be on sale before Christmas.
For now, Garth says the tour has a very simple name.
“I wanted to call it the ‘big ass stadium tour’ but they voted me down on that so we’re just gonna call it the Stadium Tour for right now. It was going to be a college tour but because of the cities, how they worked out, there’s gonna be some professional stadiums in them as well, so we’re just gonna keep it as the Stadium Tour, but this one is going to be so special, so rare and so far apart. We’ll do about 10 to 12 a year for probably three years, so they’re gonna be spread out, very individual, very unique. Notre Dame is kind of the blueprint on how this is gonna be. I will say this — if the whole tour’s gonna be like Notre Dame I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it, cause this is the most time I’ve ever put into anything.”
The stadium tour will feature an all new stage and new band members.
The idea for the tour sprung from Garth’s upcoming concert at Notre Dame Stadium, the venue’s first-ever concert. The sold-out show, which takes place on Saturday, October 20th will now be a televised event. Garth: Live from Notre Dame! will air on December 2nd at 8 PM on CBS.
The concert presents a new opportunity for Notre Dame students, which Garth explains is an idea he hopes to implement at other college stadium shows.
“We’re gonna try something at Notre Dame that I hope sticks. It’s called the Student Soundcheck, so Friday night, before Saturday, we have opened it up to anybody with a student ID it’s free. You’re gonna come in, you’re gonna watch soundcheck, you get to ask questions. (We’re) gonna open it up to faculty, staff. Faculty and staff have to pay to get in, but every penny goes to a scholarship for the college itself so it’s gonna work out really well. They’re gonna get to see behind the curtain and I encourage any student that wants to come and talk about music or talk about life, business, whatever. (I’d) love to get their view on things.”
Garth’s new The Anthology Part III, LIVE, will be released on November 20th. The five-CD package includes his new live album, Triple Live.
