NBA legend KOBE BRYANT and his 13-year-old daughter were killed in a tragic helicopter crash in L.A. yesterday morning, along with seven other people. Kobe was 41. The investigation is still ongoing, but the weather may have been a factor. It was extremely foggy at the time of the crash. They were headed to Kobe’s Mamba Sports Academy, where Gianna had a basketball game.
They were traveling with a guy named John Altobelli, his wife Keri, and their daughter Alyssa. Alyssa was on Gianna’s team.
Girls basketball coach Christina Mauser was also killed in the crash, along with the pilot and two other passengers who haven’t been identified.
Kobe Bryant grew up in Italy. . . where his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, went to continue HIS basketball career, after eight seasons in the NBA. Here, Kobe says it was INFURIATING to be a basketball prodigy in Italy. . . ’cause no one believed that his skills would hold up against the ballers back in the states.

A popular Canadian milk brand is recalling some of its products over fears of sanitizer contamination.
Agropur Cooperative has recalled several varieties of its Sealtest milk products sold in Ontario and Quebec with best before dates of February 8, 2020.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall on Friday “due to the presence of sanitizer.”
Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Without any major competition, “Bad Boys for Life” kept the top spot at the box office for a second straight week, with another $34 million. “1917” came in second, with $15.8 million.

This NFL fan avoided a season’s worth of hangovers AND just got this nice cherry on top . . .
Kameron Rees is a Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder. And he’s extra excited they’re in the Super Bowl next week, because he gets to go to the game for FREE.
This season, he signed up for a designated driver program through the NFL called “Responsibility Has Its Rewards.”
Basically, you agree to not drink at games so you can drive your drunk friends home. And it enters you in a sweepstakes to win Super Bowl tickets.
Thousands of people signed up. Then one fan from each Super Bowl team got picked.
Kameron recently got a text telling him he’d won. And he thought it was a scam at first, but it was legit. (A 49ers fan named Erin Keeley also won)
It comes with two tickets to next Sunday’s game in Miami, worth about $1,400. Plus free airfare and two nights in a hotel.
Kameron’s giving the other ticket to his dad, who took him to his first NFL game 26 years ago.

STAYING IN CONTACT:
A start-up company called Mojo Vision has unveiled a working prototype of what they are calling “the world’s first true smart contact lens.”
And yes, it’s just what you thought: A miniaturized Augmented Reality display that you can wear in your eye. It is said that it can provide directions, sports scores or even enable the wearer to see in the dark.
The manufacturer says that others can’t tell that someone is wearing one, and all interaction is performed using just the eyes. And since it’s a contact lens, the screen will still be visible even when the wearer’s eyes are closed.
The miniature MicroLED display at the center of the smart lens features a pixel density of 14,000 pixels per square inch (a world record — the iPhone 11 has a pixel density of 323ppi). Mojo Vision is now working with the US Food and Drug Administration to develop a final product, aimed at the vision impaired, that complies with regulations and standards.

A THIRD OF FOOD IS WASTED
Researchers estimate that $240 billion worth of food is wasted annually in the U.S., or an average of roughly $1,900 per household.
This waste also produces a lot of greenhouse gas, making it “the third-largest emitter of carbon after the U.S. and China.” Ultimately, they determined that the average household wastes 31.9 percent of the food is acquires, and more than two-thirds of the households in the study wasted between 20 and 50 percent of the food they acquired.
One interesting find: people who went food shopping with a list wasted less food, as did those who had to travel farther to reach a grocery store.

- At yesterday’s press briefing, L.A. County Fire Chief, Daryl Osby described the initial report on the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant and eight other people. He doesn’t mention Kobe by name. Firefighters had to hike to the crash site to deal with the brush fire and paramedics were lowered in from a helicopter to the crash site. They found no survivors.
During yesterday’s press briefing, L.A. County Sheriff, Alex Villanueva said they wouldn’t be naming the helicopter victims until the coroner had made determinations, and families contacted. While making his comments, he slammed TMZ for announcing Kobe Bryant earlier in the day.
- No winning ticket was sold for the $17 million jackpot in Friday night’s Lotto Max draw.
That means the jackpot for the next draw on Jan. 28 will grow to approximately $22 million.
No winning ticket was sold for the $7-million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw.
However, the guaranteed $1-million prize was claimed by a ticket holder in the Prairies.
The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw on Jan. 29 will be approximately $9 million.

T-MINUS 100 SECONDS . . .
I’m not sure how your Monday is going so far, but this probably won’t help. On Friday, the Doomsday Clock, which is used to illustrate how close humanity is to annihilation, was moved to its closest position to apocalypse since it was first started in 1947. It now stands at 100 seconds to midnight. President and CEO of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Rachel Bronson said in a press release that the move was made to express how close the world is to catastrophe due to the climate crisis, two threats of nuclear war, the rise of false information online, and the refusal of world leaders to act on these critical issues. The Doomsday Clock was set at two minutes to midnight in 2018, and had remained there ever since.

Nineties throwback band Hot Country Knights (HCK) are releasing their debut single called “Pick Her Up” and it features special guest Travis Tritt. Dierks Bentley AKA HCK lead singer Doug Douglason co-wrote the song and produced it.
HCK has taken full credit for everything 90s, from the music to the fashion and even the mullets. During a press conference with the band yesterday (Thursday, Jan. 23rd), one reporter asked HCK about Morgan Wallen’s part in bringing the mullet back into 2020 and Doug was pretty offended. He said: [“We patented and trademarked the mullet. We own it, just like we own 90s. If you do anything 90s country hashtag that’s us. Go look on your Google machine right now and go to the Instagram and put in #90s country. If the Knights don’t pull up first I’ll be damn. We own that, and we trademarked the mullet. We had it first, and so whatever Morgan’s doing now we need to get our people on that, make sure we’re getting a piece of that.”]

Why Is Chase Rice “Jacked Up” by What “The Bachelor” Did to Him?
CHASE RICE will be performing TONIGHT on “The Bachelor” . . . and that’s good exposure for him, right? Well, yes, but there’s a twist . . . because there’s always a twist on that show.
In the episode, Bachelor PETER WEBER takes contestant VICTORIA FULLER on a date that includes a private concert. And when she sees it’s Chase Rice she tells Peter that they dated. Then the tears flow, because tears always flow on that show.
Chase didn’t know any of this. No one told him she was a contestant, and he’s not happy about it. He said, quote, “I don’t know exactly what happened. I wish it wouldn’t have happened, but I understand it from their side of it. “They’ve got to make TV [but] it’s pretty surprising that they brought me into that, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. It’s either the reality TV gods, just some crazy coincidence or some producer did a really good job.
“Either way, it’s pretty weird they pulled me into that. That’s a little jacked up they’re going to do that to me. It was a pretty big surprise that wasn’t what I wanted.”
Chase says he negotiated with the show for about a year, but he never thought they’d pull him into the storyline. And yet, here we are talking about it and I think he realizes that’s a good thing.
He adds, quote, “At the end of the day, if it brings it back to the music and if it brings people to my music, that’s what I want people to take away from it. If the music’s good, it’ll always go back to that.”
